"The success of Motown definitely upped our visibility insofar as being able to tour more, in bigger venues, in more cities and more countries," says Shawn Stockman. "We were already an international touring company" - in a typical 12-month period, Boyz II Men performs 150-200 concerts around the world - "but Motown helped extend our reach even further."

"The beautiful thing was that we already had shows booked in Europe and Japan, as we've done almost every year for many years," Wanya Morris explains. "But performing the Motown songs was the best album promotion we could have done. And we felt the same effect back in the States as we did overseas, even in places like Billings, Montana and Salt Lake City, Utah.

"The excitement that built up as we went along through 2008 was reminiscent of the old days. The audience doesn't forget, necessarily, but the audience sometimes needs to be reminded." Nate Morris says simply: "Our fan base came back. A lot of them didn't know what we'd been up to for the past eight or ten years. Motown put the awareness out that there that Boyz II Men were still around, still making quality music - it launched us into a new future."

Even before the group's months of touring came to an end, Boyz II Men and their creative team were brainstorming the next album. Nate Morris was the first to advocate for the theme of Love: "There were a couple of different ideas raised beforehand - a doo-wop album, an Eighties album, a Motown II album - but I never felt really comfortable until we hit on the Love concept. That is the feeling that Boyz II Men have been giving our listeners since the beginning."

"People would have expected us to do a whole bunch of R&B love songs: Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, the Isley Brothers," says Wanya. "Now that repertoire certainly would not have made for a bad album, but it would've made for a more limited album. In going for classic love songs period - not just R&B, not just pop, but music - we made an album that challenged us."

"We didn't know how it would work at first," adds Shawn, "because the repertoire is so wide-ranging. Fortunately, it all came together - and better than I expected, personally. I really didn't think it was gonna fly! But as we started picking the songs and got into recording, as we heard how the arrangements came together, then I was like, `okay, now I understand this.'

Working mainly in two Los Angeles studios (Henson and Westlake), Randy Jackson a core band to play on all twelve tracks of Love. (Track 13 is the a cappella version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time.") Most of the musicians - including drummer Michael Bland, bassist Lloyd "Sonny" Thompson, and guitarist Mike Scott - are current or former accompanists with that most demanding of musical taskmas¬ters, Prince.

"That's another element that made it a great recording process," Stockman recalls, "because these guys were already a real band. They knew exactly what to do, they each knew how the others played -- and we got to hear a couple of good Prince stories!"

The vocal arrangements for a Boyz II Men album "are not something that can be done by just one person or even two of us," says Nate. "It's the totality of the group. One of us may hear one approach to the song and another guy may hear a different approach, but by the time we get to the end of the process, every¬one's had their input."

The trio's heavy touring commitments meant that time was of the essence in the creation of Love. "Here again, I think we showed that Boyz II Men is a group to be reckoned with," Wanya declares proudly. "We had a full touring schedule and a limited amount of time for the studio - and the results made some people say, `wow, they made this album in two months? An album of this caliber, from the basic band tracks to final mastering - how was this group able to do that?'"

As Nate, Wanya, and Shawn look ahead to their 20th anniversary, they reflect on the things that have kept Boyz II Men not just together over two decades but on track in pursuit of new career highs and horizons.

Shawn Stockman: "I think it's respect: respect for each other's abilities, for what we each bring to the table, respect for each other as men. We try to give each other space, room to breathe, room to grow - because we're not just Boyz II Men, we're also husbands and fathers, sons and brothers, members of our communities. At this point, there are no egos: We know we all built this thing together and we're all in it together."

Wanya Morris: "I believe what's kept us standing is our love for the music, our respect for one another, and our love for God...The connection that we have is like a marriage - and a marriage is supposed to be forever. Music brought us together and music keeps us together. To be able to finish each other's phrases and each other's ad-libs - that's a bond `no man can tear asunder,' so to speak. Nate Morris: "It's all about the songs. We got together as a group because we loved the way we sounded together. Morning Musume - Kimagure Princess [2009.10.28]

Kimagure Princess is Morning Musume’s 41st single and the last for Kusumi Koharu. I was seriously expecting another song that would sound a lot like their last 2 singles. While that would have been nice, it also would have reeked of milking a formula dry. When I heard a low quality preview of this song I was pleased to hear that would not be the case for this song.

Now that I’ve had the chance to hear this in a higher quality I’m glad that this song went in the opposite direction. This track continues the mood set by the previous singles before it (Nanchatte Renai, Shouganai Yumeoibito) but in a more up tempo manner that sounds like it has a slight influence from some kind of Russian folk song or something similar.

This isn’t exactly a return to the hyper genki kind of songs nor is it like the more mature material the group has been releasing recently. I find it to be a combination of both that strangely works. Either way it’s a great song with one exception. What is the deal with the chipmunked vocals in the verses? The rest of the song doesn’t have that effect. It doesn’t detract from the song as a whole, I just found it to be a rather strange effect to use.

The video is another in a long line of dance shot/close-ups. This wasn’t too bad. I was glad to see the group wasn’t dressed up in any sort of ridiculous outfits. Speaking of ridiculous, I mentioned that this sounds like it has some sort of Russian folk song type influence. I was kind of expecting the bears from Kusumi Koharu’s Balalaika to pop up in the background for some reason. Maybe that’s just me.

Anyway there are a couple of other things I noticed about this video:

- The dance move during the “sexy princess” line. Very nice. The close up booty shots, even better.

- The shots where the girls were making rings of fire with their hands reminded me of BoA’s Valenti video.

- Eri can rock a cowboy hat.

- Jun Jun & Sayu are the hotness.

- The best shots in the video are the slow motion close ups. The most exceptional being the Risa->Sayu transition. Hot, hot, hot.

This Is Us is the name of the seventh studio album from American Grammy-nominated international pop boy band Backstreet Boys. It will be their second album since becoming a four-piece band and is due for release on September 30, 2009 in Japan through Sony Music, October 5, 2009 in the UK through RCA, and October 6 in the US through Jive Records.

On the album the group have reunited with previous collaborator and producer Max Martin (responsible for the previous hit "I Want it That Way") to try and create their "best record since their 1999 worldwide smash hit album Millennium. They have reportedly worked with Ryan Tedder, Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly, Jim Jonsin and T-Pain for the album as well.

They have also worked with award-winning producer/songwriter RedOne, who was behind the number one singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga. RedOne produced the album's lead single "Straight Through My Heart". The music video has followed a vampire theme and has been premiered on US Weekly on August 27, 2009.

Conception and production
In an interview with Extra TV, the group confirmed the title of their seventh album to be This Is Us. In the official press release RCA/Jive Records describes the album as "a finely crafted R&B and pop album from four talented musicians who love what they do and who maintain the rare relevance in an industry that often disposes of pop acts. The 11 songs that make up album are the sounds of four skilled singers with a similar vision, who have dealt with the trials and tribulations that accompany fame at an early age and who came out as one of the most successful groups of all time. It shows remarkable growth as songwriters and continues to give us songs that has made millions smile."

On May 1, 2009, the Backstreet Boys management team expressed discontent at the fact that four recorded songs had been leaked on the internet. In an interview, AJ McLean said that the group were "P.O.ed that music had leaked especially since extra care had been taken to keep the record secret". In the end, however, the group used the feedback from the leaks to help guide the direction of the album and even the song selection by comparing fan reviews to what producers thought about the songs.[5] The album was described by McLean as being a mix of pop and R&B, but including more uptempo songs for live performances and the tour.The first single "Straight Through My Heart" was performed for the first time on August 15, 2009 at the KTU Beatsock in New York City.

Speaking of their collaborations with RedOne, McLean remarked that it had been largely a last minute affair. Due to timing, the group was not able to make any recordings with the in-demand producer; however, near to the album's turn-in date, RedOne revealed that he had worked on three songs for the group and was more than willing to collaborate. It was also revealed that there had previously been 5 or 6 singles in the running for the lead single, although a Kevin Borg production titled "PDA" was most likely to be released; however, the RedOne production felt like "it was meant to be". Like fellow label mates Jordin Sparks, Britney Spears and Ciara the group will simultaniously release the standard and deluxe editions of the album. The deluxe edition (limited first edition in Japan) will feature a DVD of bonus content but unusually no additional bonus songs.

Morning Musume - Nanchatte Renai [Relesed August 12, 2009]

All of the covers were released on the official H!P page today. I’m really glad I ordered Limited A and the 40th edition, simply because they look so different and they both have different B-sides. The Limited B edition does look really different, but the title is exactly the same as the 40th edition.

The Limited A somewhat reminds me of Onna ni Sachi Are or Kanashimi Twilight for some reason, but I’m glad it is different from the Regular edition with a softer background.

The 40th commemorative edition looks really different from the others because of the white background and the yellow logo in the right corner, and because the girls take up most of the cover in a group close-up (this by far is my favorite cover out of the 4).

A bigger regular version cover of Morning Musume’s latest single title Nanchatte Renai has also been released as well.

From what I can see I like the cover, the black, red and white really combine. Kusumi is in the center, and Takahashi looks really short for some reason, but her pose somewhat combines with Kamei’s and Sayu’s.

I really like the red and white background, since it contrasts with the black and white costumes the girls are wearing (H!P has something for little hats lately for some reason). The font used for the title is ther same they used for Berryz Koubou’s Dakishimete Dakishimete for some reason, but it does make the cover look unique.

I’ll update the post with bigger covers once they are released.

The single is set for release on 8/5 in four versions: Regular, Limited A, Limited B, and 40th Anniversary (which will include a different B-side).
